I took myself off Klonopin after being on it for two years... Had I known how brutally hard it was going to be I would have done some things differently! No one made me get off it, I didn't abuse it, and finding how hard it was physically on me really to stop taking shocked me! I had tapered, but not nearly enough... All the resources I had read said the withdrawal was 2-3 weeks. I wish. That's what kept me pushing through, but I suffered for months. It would seem to be ebbing and easing up and I thought it was finally over, but it was only a couple days. Then there it was again. If you can, get help with it. If you have an addiction, trying to taper off yourself may not be possible. Don't be afraid to ask for help! There's very few things more beautiful than witnessing recovery! And the life that comes to their eyes! Just remember, having an addiction doesn't make you a bad person! Unfortunately you may have assholes in your life that don't get it. If you can't completely ix-nay them from your life, keep contact minimal and try to surround yourself with positive and supportive people

I had to go to a psychiatrist who was educated in this area. He prescribed me something that goes under your tongue, non habit forming, to help reduce withdrawal symptoms. I was able to go through out my day without any issue. I would have pains and almost convulse on withdrawals. He helped me and walked me thorough every step. You can't ween yourself off of everything. Some are tougher than others. I was taking OxyContin for back pain. I have since had surgery and need only ibuprofen from time to time.

If you are having withdrawal symptoms from a Opiod, in my opinion it is best to decrease slowly. Take your time and keep yourself busy.

Taper off very slowly after you get a ok from your Dr. It can be dangerous with some meds.

Slow taper with small changes. Try decreasing the dosage by 1/3 for X amount of time, then by a half for X amount of time, then 1/4, to eventually every other day. Find what works for you. Your body will tell you the best slow taper approach.

As a retired substance abuse counselor, I suggest you see your physician anytime when you are taking medications and get his expertise in handling the titration of getting off of any medication. It's very dangerous to come off of some medication quickly.
