Have a list of questions, look at the appointment as a business transaction, take responsibility for my own health and if needed bring along an advocate.

Ask questions and be your own advocate. If something doesn't feel right don't let them brush you off.

Having specific questions ready pertaining to my visit already planned out ahead of time is really helpful. A lot of Drs. Have only a short window of time to see patients. It helps them for me to have a direction to go. It also lets them know that I am aware of what's going on with my own body. Being organized and knowing your body will help you to ask the right questions and also choose the right Dr. for you.

I make sure that I go to a doctor that respects me and is not paternalistic. I expect to make decisions together. If that doesn't happen, I find a doctor that has that type of style.
